Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Clinical Psychologist?

Clinical Psychologists are highly trained mental health professionals whose work involves improving mental wellbeing through the application of evidence based psychological theory, assessment and interventions. UK trained Clinical Psychologists are trained to Doctoral level within NHS funded training programmes and must be registered with the Health Care and Professions Council in order to practice. Clinical Psychology is a highly regulated profession within the UK. By arranging to see a Clinical Psychologist you have the reassurance of knowing you are working with a clinician who is extremely competent in their field.

Are the sessions confidential?

I take your privacy concerns very seriously. As a Clinical Psychologist it is important to create a safe place where people are able to discuss their private experiences and thoughts and so I always ensure confidentiality in sessions. It is important to highlight though that there are instances where there is a professional obligation to break confidentiality if there is a risk of harm occurring either to a client or another person. If this were to occur I would always try to discuss this with you as long as it was safe to do so. Please refer to the privacy policy for further information.

How do online sessions work?

Online therapy is very similar to in-person therapy. We discuss the same issues, and I use the same therapeutic approaches and techniques. The main difference is that sessions take place via Zoom instead of in a clinic room.

There are several benefits to online therapy, including the ability to attend from a space where you feel comfortable, greater flexibility to fit sessions into your schedule, and the convenience and privacy of being at home.

To get the most out of online sessions, it’s important to have:

·       A reliable internet connection

·       A device like a laptop or tablet that supports Zoom

·       A quiet, private space where you can focus without distractions

How many sessions will I need?

This really depends on individual need and treatment goals. Some people attend for only a few sessions to work on a specific goal, where as others may wish to attend on a longer term basis to work on a more complex issue or receive ongoing support through a challenging period in life. I always take a collaborative approach when thinking about treatment plans and will discuss number of sessions within the assessment.

Can I use my health insurance to pay for therapy sessions?

I am registered with many of the major providers of health insurance in the UK and many of my clients use health insurance to pay for sessions. Please do get in touch if you would like to discuss this as an option and I can let you know if I work with your specific insurer. It is important that you also check with your insurer to find out what your policy covers and whether any excess payment will be due if you make a claim. It will be your responsibility to ensure that your insurer has agreed to fund the sessions and you will be liable to pay for any sessions not covered by your insurance.
